During the first week of July the four of us were in Lawrenceville, New Jersey for Ultimate Peace’s first US camp! It was the furthest any of us have traveled for ultimate which gave us the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. We had an incredible experience so we wanted to share what camp was like with you all!
Ultimate Peace first started their programs in the Middle East with five values they uphold today: mutual respect, friendship, fun, integrity and non-violence.
At this camp, the four of us were placed into different teams- which throughout the week we made team names, flags and cheers. One of the best parts of camp was spending so much time with our own teams, getting to know them and building friendships that will last for a while.
What is so special about UP is the welcoming environment we were submerged into, singing, dancing and all. The theme of camp was “Step Up”, something we all accomplished at some point during the short time we were there, whether it was through dancing in front of others, practicing new positions, or sharing our thoughts on issues such as gender’s role in ultimate.
It might be corny, but we truly believe the experiences we had at this camp were life changing and eye opening. We definitely will bring our insights from UP into our lives, both on the field and off.
